The city od Rovinj was an island until 1763. It was protected by strong stone walls and had seven gates. There are many important sights in the Old Town core and that is the main reason why it was pronounced a monument of culture in 1963.

In the year 800 sarcophagus containing the body of the Christian martyr Euphemia came floating on the sea waves. Many pilgrims came to visit the tomb of St. Euphemia so the citizens of Rovinj decided to build a bigger church.

The museum was founded in 1954. in Baroque palace of the counts of Califfi based on the initiative of Rovinj fine artists. The main goal was to make the museum a place where all cultural heritage would be gathered and where many cultural exhibitions would be held.

The Mini Museum is a forester's lodge located at the main gate in the Golden Cape forest park. It is dedicated to the Hütterot family that owned the forest park at the end of the 19th century. In the forester's lodge you can also rent a bike or organize climbing courses at the Montauro cape.

Besides the permanent exhibitions of batanas and fishing tools, the Batana House offers you various events that combine tradition and contemporary life, past and present. Visiting the Batana House Museum you can learn the sotry about an ancient wooden vessel that will always remain a part of Rovinj's everyday life.
